Religious Education

Religious Education Purposes The purpose of this Commission is to provide effective channels for the transmission of the Good News of Jesus Christ to the various members of the Catholic Community. The very existence of the Church is dependent upon the EFFECTIVE proclamation of God’s Word. St. Paul reminds us that "Faith comes from hearing." Hence the importance of programs that will convey the excitement of Christianity. Religious education is based on the correct imparting of knowledge but extends to one’s relationship with Christ; therefore it must also entail deep personal convictions on the part of the teachers, the example and support of the Catholic Community and true prayer. There is a close relationship between the Religious Education Commission and the Worship and Spirituality commission. One imparts the Good News; the other enables us to celebrate it. Therefore it is important that both of these commissions work closely together.
Responsibilities
Teaching the Faith:
To develop for every age group in the parish a religious education program of high quality, that transmits the teachings and customs of the Church
Teaching the Bible:
to teach everyone to read the Bible with understanding and fidelity.
Preparation for the Sacraments:
To have good programs of catechesis for individuals and their families who are about to celebrate the sacraments.
Catholic Schools:
Where Catholic schools exist, to insure that they offer an environment that calls forth the desire for God, through prayer and appropriate theological reflections, and the desire to learn, through the excellence and variety of teachers and programs. Also, to coordinate the religious education programs of the school with those programs that reach Catholics not attending the school.
